African Leadership University Marks a Decade of Impact with Grand Decennial Celebration

Decennial celebration

The African Leadership University (ALU) kicked off its 10th anniversary—its Decennial Celebration — launching a year-long tribute to a decade of empowering ethical, entrepreneurial leaders across Africa and beyond. Under the theme “10 Years of Impact, A Future of Opportunities,” ALU will host a series of online and in-person events throughout 2025, uniting students, alumni, faculty, staff, parents, partners, and donors in Mauritius, Rwanda, and virtually worldwide. This milestone celebrates ALU’s transformative journey and its bold vision for the future.

ALU’s decade of impact shines through its achievements. With 5,073 students ever enrolled, including 2,942 currently enrolled representing 40 African nationalities and 1,741 alumni, ALU has built a pan-African community. Of our alumni, 76% have secured wage employment since graduation, 25% have launched their own ventures, and 17% have pursued further studies. ALU boasts a 75% six-month placement rate, with graduates earning an average starting salary of US$2,186—five times higher than the college graduate average in Rwanda, Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Ghana. Additionally, 419 student entrepreneurs have created 4,145 jobs and raised over US$2.7 million in capital, while 473 alumni entrepreneurs have generated over 40,000 jobs and secured more than US$12 million in funding.

CEO of ALU, Veda Sunassee shared:

“Ten years ago, we were a bold idea. Today, we’re a movement. You — our students, alumni, partners and staff — are the heartbeat of this journey. You’ve turned challenges into opportunities, and that’s the ALU spirit,” he said. Mr Sunassee reaffirmed the university’s focus on experiential learning, leadership development, and tackling Africa’s grand challenges like climate change and inequality.”

The African Leadership University’s Decennial Celebration stands as a powerful testament to its unwavering commitment to leadership, innovation, and pan-African progress. Here’s to a decade of impact—and many more to come!
